A melody is a series of single notes with rhythm. It’s what you sing in the shower. It’s what you whistle and hum it. But it’s not a chord progression. There are lots of developing songwriters who prefer writing chord progressions first, then digging for the melody later.

After ankle surgery, my right foot was very swollen. I couldn’t possibly wear my regular grey sneakers. So I bought another pair a half size bigger. The big shoe went on my right foot, the regular shoe on my left. Since the bigger shoe was sold out in grey, I wore one black shoe on my right foot, and one grey on the left.
