Tony Bennett
I’ve always been a pop/country writer, but my multi-Oscar-winning mentor was old school. He insisted I know by heart the classic Tin Pan Alley songs from the 40’s on up, as well as who wrote and sang them.
He also showed me that a great voice is one you can recognize by hearing one note. Yes. Just one note.
And at the top of that eternal list, is Tony Bennett.
He was Frank Sinatra’s favorite singer.
He never sang any of my songs, but I loved him anyway.
As long as there’s always, I will remember him.
Thank you, Tony. I’ve been blessed and re-blessed by you.
God speed.
Love, Molly.
